ACUPUNCTURE & HERBAL MEDICINE [ ORANGE COUNTY + SANTA MONICA, CA ]
WHAT WE DO

Acupuncture is less about treating a symptom in isolation, and more about understanding the system that produced it.

What's acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a traditional East Asian medical practice with a history spanning thousands of years. Today, it is used alongside modern healthcare to support pain management, recovery, systemic regulation, and overall wellness.

The research-backed practice of inserting very fine, sterile needles into select points on the body stimulates a cascade of physiological responses which regulate the nervous system, encourage blood flow, moderate hormones, reduce inflammation, and support immunity.

WHAT CAN ACUPUNCTURE SUPPORT?

Because acupuncture engages the body's own regulatory processes, its therapeutically effective at treating a broad range of symptoms and conditions, including but not limited to:

PAIN & MOVEMENT

musculo-skeletal pain, injuries, headaches, TMJ, tension

GUT HEALTH

bloating, digestive discomfort, IBS, constipation, appetite + metabolic concerns

HORMONES & REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH

menstrual irregularity, PMS, fertility support, menopause, hormonal transitions

STRESS & NERVOUS SYSTEM

anxiety, grief, burnout, insomnia, emotional overwhelm

Often, we're addressing more than one of these at once.

With acupuncture and Chinese Medicine, we blend the precision of medicine with the art of seeing the whole person - recognizing the constant dynamic interplay between body, mind, spirit and what's happening around us.

BEYOND NEEDLES

Acupuncture is just one of many natural modalities from the long-standing healing traditions. Depending on what your body needs, treatment may also include cupping, gua sha, ear seeds, electric stimulation or herbal medicine.

Radix ginseng
Gua sha tools

These therapies aren't add-ons for the sake of doing more. Each offers a different way of influencing the body's physiology and supporting the work of treatment. Together, these tools give us a nuanced way to respond to each patient's personal needs and goals.

WHAT ARE WE WORKING TOWARD?

The goal isn't simply to make life entirely frictionless.  It's to enjoy the process of building enough resilience and capacity to hold both ease and difficulty - to meet life's inevitable disruptions without becoming estranged from yourself. To move, connect, and inhabit your life - and to feel like yourself while doing it.

ABOUT SWEET DWELLER
Chelsea, licensed acupuncturist

MEET CHELSEA, L.AC, FOUNDER

  • Licensed acupuncturist
  • Board-certified herbalist
  • Master’s of Traditional Chinese Medicine,
Emperor’s College — summa cum laude graduate

As a naturally curious and existential undergrad at NYU, I studied the ethics and anthropology of artificial intelligence. Ultimately disenchanted by our trajectory toward a future increasingly mediated by technology, I steered my curiosity in the opposite direction: away from screens and artificial machines, toward earthly, tactile, human-to-human experience.

A quintessential human experience is pain. Like many healers, my path toward holistic medicine was born from my own attempts to make sense of it. For years, I was dogged by daily headaches, severe gut dysbiosis, anxiety, and a constellation of unexplained symptoms. I cycled through medications, supplements, elimination diets, doctors, and specialists - always searching for an explanation, and often feeling more confused and isolated than supported.

At some point on the long winding road, I explored Traditional Chinese Medicine theory through a couple library books and found its language for mapping patterns and treatment to be highly intuitive and refreshing. It provided a comprehensive, timeless framework that reshaped my understanding of the mind-body-spirit relationship and revealed an entirely new path to explore. While the theory resonated, I was a little reluctant to be poked with needles in the name of healing - but I was also desperate and tired of feeling at odds with myself.

This is often the state in which people arrive at acupuncture for their first time:
having tried plenty, feeling unsupported, and unsure what to do next. When your body becomes something you're constantly trying to manage, fix, or make sense of, it can be hard to feel at home in it. What you need most is a place to be met with patience, curiosity, and care. This is what I offer: the space to slow down, listen, and begin reconnecting with yourself. Where it makes sense, I also welcome collaboration with other care professionals already working with you, so that your healthcare feels seamless.

What my years-long immersion in acupuncture and the broader systems of multi-modal healing has taught me is this: Rather than treating the body as a problem to be solved, become curious —observe the patterns, listen to its signals, and develop trust in its remarkable capacity to adapt and recover

Perhaps most importantly, healing asks us to reckon with a truth that is both humbling and freeing:

We don’t always get to choose what happens to our bodies. Life is a constant succession of changing seasons. We age. We work and stress. We care for friends and family. We experience injuries and illness, loss, injustice, heartbreak, and burnout. All of these leave their imprint on our physiology, and it's up to us how we respond.

Whatever brings you through my door, what I’m most passionate about is helping you develop a kinder relationship with yourself so that navigating our brief time on this pale blue dot feels more like a dance and less like a struggle.  My hope is that, during our time together, you come to see your body as a place to sweetly dwell in.

What to expect

WHERE WE BEGIN

We start with the whole picture.  Before your first visit, you'll complete an intake form to tell us about your medical history and current concerns.

CONSULTATION

Together, we'll assess your symptoms and patterns, discuss your goals - then develop a personalized treatment plan.  Your treatment may pair acupuncture with other modalities depending on what your body needs that day.

YOU REST, WE TREAT

Soften your shoulders, settle your nervous system, and enjoy the time you've carved out to be cared for. Many patients find treatment deeply relaxing and drift into a restorative nap.

AFTER CARE

You'll leave with practical guidance to support your progress between visits, and over time you'll develop a deeper understanding of what your body needs to adapt, recover and thrive.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does it hurt?

The short answer: usually not. Most people are surprised by how little they feel and some even enjoy paying attention to the unique, subtle sensations that arise during treatment. You may notice a slight tingle, warmth, or pulsing as a needle settles in, but acupuncture is not meant to test your pain tolerance or make you brace.

How many treatments will I need?

It depends on what we're working with, how long it's been present, and how your body responds. The effects of acupuncture tend to be cumulative, so we typically recommend a consistent schedule at the beginning, then space treatments out as your system becomes more responsive and stable. Treatment timelines vary for each patient and will be discussed during your initial consultation.

Do you take insurance?

I am not in-network with any insurance providers at this time.
If cost is a barrier to receiving treatment, please send me a message to learn about sliding scale availability. I offer a limited number of sliding scale appointments each month, as well as discounted treatment rates for students, teachers, healthcare providers, and veterans.

Anything to know before my first treatment?

Come dressed comfortably, ideally having eaten something light beforehand.

For safety reasons, treatment cannot be provided to anyone who arrives intoxicated or actively under the influence of recreational drugs.
